New Buildings in Old Cities
At first in Budapest I thought I was looking at very well kept old buildings and bridges. Quickly I realized that the far majority of the buildings were either completely or mostly new due to the intense shelling of the city during World War Two. Though the city has been beautifully reconstructed it serves as a somber reminder of the ruination that humans can inflict on ourselves and what we've built. On a lighter note I enjoyed the ruin bars built in old Soviet factories, Hungarian beer, and (most surprisingly) a great Hungarian U2 cover band. I laughed every time Bono spoke fluent Hungarian to the crowd between songs.
I need to figure out why Blogger keeps lowering the quality of the photos I upload.
